Fake Australian Carnival Glass

Fake examples of Australian carnival glass have been spotted, including here in Australia. Glen Thistlewood in the UK has been collating available evidence about these fakes from various sources.

Initially, the fakes were limited to just 'Kingfisher' small nappy bowls in marigold, dark (amethyst) and pink,  but now fake 'Kangaroo' master bowls have also been spotted in marigold, light blue, pink and amber.

You can see the results of Glen's analysis of the fake 'Kingfisher' bowls by clicking here, and the results of her analysis of the fake 'Kangaroo' bowls by clicking here.

We believe the fake 'Kangaroo' bowls may have been made in China this year - so they are brand new!

If you become aware of any other fakes in Australian carnival glass patterns, please let us know so that we can alert others.

If you would like some advice as to whether or not a bowl you are thinking of buying may be a fake, please e-mail a photo or link to us by clicking here. Be alert, know your glass, seek advice if unsure, and happy collecting!
