This is the 9"
'Kingfisher' master bowl in marigold. The 'Kingfisher' pattern is the
earliest of Crystal Glass Company's flora and fauna patterns, and was
made from around 1923. It also came in a 5" wide nappy bowl, and
was also produced in Crystal's 'dark' colour. Marigold master bowls
normally sell for around $A250, while dark master bowls sell for around
$A400. There is also a variant to the 'Kingfisher' which has wattle
blossom added to the gum leaf surround.
|
|
Here is an example of the
'Kingfisher' pattern in a 5" wide nappy bowl, and in Crystal's
'dark' colour. Marigold nappy bowls normally sell around $A150, while
dark nappy bowls normally sell for around $A250. Be aware that there
are some fake 'Kingfisher' nappy bowls around. Please click here for more details.

|
The variation to the
standard 'Kingfisher' pattern includes wattle flowers with the wattle
leaves around the edge of the bowl. Here is a photo of a dark master
bowl in this pattern. Values are the same as for the standard
'Kingfisher' bowls.
|
|
Although this looks similar
to the 'Kingfisher' pattern, it is in fact the 'Kookaburra' pattern.
The two birds are similar, but separate species. The wattle, waratah
& flannel flower pattern surrounding the Kookaburra is also different
to the gum leaves which surround the Kingfisher. Pictured is the
9" master bowl in marigold which normally sells for around $A500.
The dark master bowl normally sells for around $A1000. Marigold 5"
nappy bowls in this pattern normally sell for around $A250, while dark
nappy bowls sell for around $A300.

|
The 'Kangaroo' pattern comes
in two versions featuring small (female or doe) kangaroos and large
(male or buck) kangaroos. Both versions are surrounded by images of
trees. This 9" master bowl in marigold features the small
kangaroo, and normally sells for around $A400. In dark it would
normally sell around $A650. There is only one version in nappy bowls
and marigold examples of these normally sell for around $A150, while
dark nappy bowls would normally sell for around $A250. Be aware that
there may be some fake 'Kangaroo' master bowls around. Please click here for more details.
|
|
The 'Swan' pattern also
comes in both 9" master bowls and 5" nappy bowls. In
marigold, the master bowl would normally sell for around $A300, while
in dark it would fetch around $A500. Nappy bowls in marigold would
normally sell for around $A200, while dark nappy bowls would normally
sell for around $A250. Surrounding the swan are four sprigs of
Christmas Bell flowers. The exterior of the bowl comes with either the
'Wattle & Fern' pattern or a plain exterior.

|

|
This is the 'Emu' 9"
master bowl. The emu is surrounded by sprigs of wattle, flannel flowers
and even two butterflies. In marigold this bowl would normally sell for
around $A1,000, while dark bowls would
normally fetch around $A1,750. Marigold 5" nappy bowls in this
pattern would normally sell for around $A250, while dark nappy bowls
would normally fetch around $A300. This pattern also appears on
compotes (see below) and cake salvers.
|
|
Although difficult to see in
this photo, this is the 'Emu' pattern compote. The cake salver is the
same, except flatter. On this piece the emu is flanked to the right and
overhead by two trees, and below by grass. The reverse pattern on the
compote and cake salver is the 'Hobnail and Cane' pattern which can be
seen in this photo. This compote stands 6" high and is just over
10" wide. In marigold they would normally sell for around $A950,
while in dark they would sell for around $A1,200.

|
The 'Kiwi' pattern is
perhaps the hardest to find of the Australia flora and fauna patterns.
Like the other patterns, it also comes in a 9" master bowl and a
5" nappy bowl. The kiwi is surrounded by sprigs of tree fern. In
marigold the master bowl would normally sell for around $A500, and in
dark it would normally fetch around $A1,300.
Marigold nappy bowls would normally sell for around $A350, while dark
nappy bowls would normally sell for around $A500. This pattern also
appears on an 8" wide dome footed salad bowl.
|
|
Yet another in the Crystal
Glass Company's flora and fauna range, this is the 'Magpie' pattern.
The magpie is surrounded by a garland of flannel flowers. 9"
master bowls in marigold would normally sell for around $A300, while
dark master bowls would normally fetch around $A500.
|

|
|

|
Here is an example of the
'Magpie' pattern in a 5" wide nappy bowl, and in Crystal's 'dark'
colour. Marigold nappy bowls normally sell for around $A150, while dark
nappy bowls normally sell for around $A250.
|
|
The last of the main Crystal
Glass Company flora and fauna patterns is the 'Shrike', sometimes also
referred to as 'Wattle & Shrike'. Americans often incorrectly call
this pattern 'Thunderbird'. The shrike is flanked by two sprigs of
wattle. Again this pattern appeared in both 9" master bowls and
5" nappy bowls. Master bowls in marigold would normally fetch around
$A450, while dark versions would fetch around $A800. Marigold nappy
bowls would normally sell for around $A250, while dark examples would
sell for around $A300.

|
Crystal Glass Company made a
series of compotes with patterns including butterflies. This one is
called 'Butterfly Bush' and has a butterfly in the middle, surrounded
by five sprigs of flowers, each containing a butterfly. This compote is
4 1/4" high and just over 7" wide, with a smooth rim. In
marigold it would normally sell for around $A300, while a dark compote would fetch around $A400.
|
|
Here is an example of the
'Butterfly Bush' pattern in Crystal's dark colour. Dark versions of the
compote sell for around $A400.
|

|
|

|
A variation on the pattern
shown above, this compote carries the 'Butterfly Bush & Christmas
Bells' pattern, with a sprig of Christmas Bells in the centre. It is a
similar size to the previous compote, and sells for similar prices to
those shown for the 'Butterfly Bush' compotes above.
|
|
This is a beautiful example
of the 'Butterfly Bush & Flannel Flower' compote. A similar shape
and size to the 'Emu' compote mentioned above, this compote also
carries the 'Hobnail & Cane' pattern on the exterior, but with the
'Butterfly & Flannel Flower' pattern on the front instead. This
pattern is the same as the other butterfly patterns, but this time with
a flannel flower in the centre. Marigold compotes in this pattern
normally sell for between $A500 and $A600, while dark examples normally
fetch between $A700 and $A800.

|
|

|
This is a 7" bowl in
the 'Trailing Flowers' pattern. Known only in marigold, these bowls
normally sell for around $A250.
