These pages provide a small sample of the variety of carnival glass shapes and patterns available. They are not intended to be a comprehensive guide. The values quoted are estimates only, based on retail prices in Australia, and assume that the piece is in excellent or mint condition, with no chips, cracks or other blemishes in the glass, and no scratches, worn patches or other blemishes in the iridescence.

Other Australian Carnival Glass

All these pieces were made by the Crown Crystal Glass Company of Sydney, Australia.

This is Crystal Glass Company's '#181' vase. It is a gum tips vase. That is, it was made to display gum tips. Some people incorrectly refer to this vase as the 'Gum Tips' pattern, but Crystal Glass made gum tips vases in many patterns, not just the #181. See the photo of the #295 vase at the bottom of this page. These vases normally sell for between $A200 and $A250 in marigold, and for between $A300 and $A350 in dark.

This simple looking oval shaped bowl with a diamond type exterior pattern is known as the '#321' pattern. Unfortunately, not a very valuable piece, and in marigold it would normally sell for between $A50 and $A60.

This beautiful 7 1/2" wide footed bowl is in the 'Australian Holly' pattern. The marigold iridescence is normally quite dark, and they normally sell for around $A350.

This cute little mug stands just 3 3/8" high and is in the '#110' pattern made by Crown Crystal. It was sold in both plain versions (photo at top right) and in souvenir versions etched with greetings from towns in South Australia (photo at bottom right). Mugs are known to exist with etched greetings from the towns of Mt Gambier, Moonta, Quorn and Yacka, and also with other personal greetings. Plain versions of these mugs normally sell for around $A75, while versions etched with messages sell for around $A125.

The 'Broken Chain' pattern was an exterior pattern, sometimes appearing with a plain interior, and sometimes with the 'Butterfly Bower' interior. This example is 6 1/2" wide. Value for a marigold bowl is normally $A120, while a dark bowl would normally fetch around $A200.

A similar pattern is called ‘Quilted Diamond’, the difference being a diamond band instead of the band of broken chain. Values are similar to ‘Broken Chain’.

And here is the same 6 1/2" wide bowl with the 'Butterfly Bower' interior. Value for a marigold bowl is normally around $A150, while a dark bowl would normally fetch around $A200.

Description: Description: Description: Description: C:\Users\Wayne\Documents\My Webs\CGCAA\Images\Pin Ups Bowl.jpg

The simple pattern on this 7 1/2" bowl is called 'Pin Ups', although in some circles it is also called 'Hat Pins'. In marigold the bowl would normally sell for around $A150, while dark examples would fetch around $A230.

An example of the 'Gem Lustre' range of glass made by Crown Crystal in later years, this apothecary jar has a transparent marigold finish, and normally sells for around $A50.

In marigold they normally sell for around $A250. In dark they would normally fetch around $A500. The pattern also appears in rose bowl and compote shapes of similar size.

Almost identical to the 'Diamond' sugar bowl, this one instead has a plain panelled exterior, and so is called simply 'Panelled'. Prices are as for the 'Diamond' sugar bowl above.

This 8 1/2" wide bowl is very heavy, and is in the 'Heavy Banded Diamonds' pattern. Like the 'Diamond Cut' pattern, it is known in three colours - pastel marigold, dark marigold, and dark. In marigold they normally sell for around $A150, while in dark expect to pay around $A250.

This solid looking tumbler is also in the 'Heavy Banded Diamonds' pattern, and is a little over 4" high. There is a matching water pitcher. In marigold, these tumblers normally sell for around $A250 each, while in dark they would normally bring around $A350 each.

This pattern is called 'Style' and comes in bowls of various shapes and sizes, with different edge treatments. This example is 7" wide. The geometric pattern is on the exterior, while the lattice pattern is on the interior. In marigold these bowls normally sell for around $A130, while in dark they bring around $A200.

This delicate little creamer is in Crystal Glass Company's 'Streamline' pattern. It has a transparent iridescence, and is only known in marigold. Value is around $A80.

Another example of the various gum tips vases made by Crystal, and a good example of the 'dark' carnival glass made by the company, this is their '#295' vase. These vases normally sell for between $A200 and $A250 in marigold, and for between $A300 and $A350 in dark.
