Well,
here we are in yet another year, with all the fun and challenges of our
carnival glass collecting in front of us for another year. I hope the new
year brings you happiness, fulfilment and prosperity in everything you do,
including collecting carnival glass.
24
November 2002 saw 25 members gather at the home of John & Lorraine Friend in
beautiful Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. We have been blessed with good
weather for each of our meetings over the last couple of years, and the
November meeting was no exception. We were even introduced to the civilised
past-time of croquet during the afternoon.
As
usual, members brought along lots of beautiful
glass to show us, including many sugars and creamers, which was the ‘Show &
Tell’ theme for the day. Just take a look at the photos under the ‘Show &
Tell’ heading to see what it was like!
Among
the business items discussed at the meeting, we talked about the possibility
of holding a carnival glass display somewhere in the Sydney metropolitan
area. It was agreed by all that this would be a good idea, however the
timing, location and logistics are all complex issues that need to be
resolved carefully. We agreed that holding the display on its own would be
pointless, and that in order to draw any sort of crowd we would need to hold
the display in conjunction with another event that would draw the people who
might be interested in our display, for example, a major collectibles show or
auction. Many good ideas were put forward on the day, but it was decided
that members should give some thought to the subject before the February
meeting and bring their ideas back for further discussion then. We are not
going to rush into this, as there are too many mistakes we could make. If
you have any ideas about this subject please bring them along to the
February meeting, or send them to one of the committee members who will
bring them to the meeting on your behalf.
Ray &
Jean Rogers shared the details of their visit to the display put on by the
Carnival Glass Society of Australia (SA) Inc on the weekend of 26 & 27
October 2002. Please see elsewhere in the newsletter for further details of
this display and some photos.
Pat &
Phyllis Finneran have shown their loyalty to carnival glass and our club,
along with their good sense of humour, in the way they have decorated the
back of their new RV. Check out the photos at right. Way to go Pat! This is
how to spread the word – literally! I am looking into the possibility of
making a decal for the car window using Pat’s design, and will keep you
informed of progress. This would be a great method of publicising both
carnival glass and our club. What do you think?
Two
newsletters ago we heard from John & Lorraine Friend about their travels to
Victoria, and we also heard from Jean Rogers about the upcoming ‘Treasure
Hunt’ show on carnival glass. Before that it had been quite a while since we
had heard from any members about their carnival glass stories, and we
haven’t had any since. So why not write in and tell us where you have been,
what you have found, or what you think about a particular carnival glass
issue. Remember, this is YOUR newsletter.
Well,
that’s all I have for you this month. We are back in the Sydney metropolitan
area for our February 2003 meeting, so I look forward to our biggest turnout
yet. Please make an effort to come along to the meeting, and share in the
fellowship of carnival glass collecting. Happy carnival glass collecting!
