22 February 2004
Our record
of rainy meetings is still intact. Our meeting at the home of Ray &
Jean Rogers in Lugarno on 22 February saw the sixth wet meeting in a row,
and the third wet Lugarno meeting in a row. But the rain cleared and the
sun came out, and besides, nothing was going to dampen the carnival
enthusiasm of the 29 members who attended anyway!
Once
again there was lots of nice carnival glass on display, but I will let
Rhonda tell you all about later in the newsletter. We welcomed new
members Lesley and Bob Smith, and hope that we will see them at lots of
future meetings. We also held a Dutch auction, in addition to our usual
raffle, and the club’s coffers were again topped up well. My thanks again
to our raffle raconteur, Patrice Charnay, and
to our auctioneers Alan Christofferson and
Maurice Geeke, and thanks to everyone for
opening your purses and wallets generously.
Unfortunately,
our plans to hold a display at one of the Wentworth Park collectibles
shows have fallen through, but we have not abandoned the idea completely,
and will now start searching for another suitable location. We will keep
you informed of our progress in this regard.
We
have finally got all the changes to our constitution sorted out and
locked in. By the time you read this the new constitution should be
lodged with the NSW Dept of Fair Trading. Thank
you to everyone for bearing with us through this process. It can be slow
and painful getting necessary constitutional changes through, but it is
worth the effort in the long run.
The
May meeting is the club’s annual general meeting, and we will once again
be voting for the office bearers who will carry our club through the next
year. A number of the existing office bearers will not be standing again,
so I urge you all to consider standing for office in your club. A
nomination form is included with this newsletter.
Our
May meeting is also being held in Orange for the first time, so please
make the effort to come along and join the fun. Many of us will be making
a weekend out of it again. Mark & Vick Strangwidge
will be our hosts, and they have arranged a dinner on the Saturday night
for us. Please look elsewhere in this newsletter for all the details of
the next meeting.
I am
one of those who will not be standing for office again. After three years
as President it is time to hand the reigns over to someone else. I don’t
think things are in too bad a shape after my three years. Finances are
healthy, membership is climbing gradually, the Internet site is proving
popular, and people seem relatively happy with the way the club is going.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members who have
helped me by serving on the committee with me over the last three years.
It has been a privilege to serve you all as President and I wish the
incoming President all the best.
Take
care and happy glass hunting!
Wayne
Delahoy
President
