15 August 2004
Hi
everyone
I
hope that all of you that could make it to our last meeting enjoyed
yourselves as much as I did hosting it. Although to be fair, I must again
thank my mum (Dianne Geake) and Tanya Maher for the time they both put in
making our August meeting such a success. A job well done.
A big
thank-you to all of you who bought something along for afternoon tea. It’s
always a joy to see the smorgasbord of treats that are on offer, quite often
created up by our connoisseur cooks in the club.
It’s
always such a buzz to catch up with everyone at the meetings and this one
was no exception. The number of club members in attendance at the meeting
was 32, which I believe to be close to a record, so well done everyone.
Let’s
see if we can match or improve upon this in the upcoming meetings.
The
distances that many of you had to travel to get this meeting were
substantial, not to mention the added hazards of a snow fall thrown into the
equation for Olive White’s trip to Freemans Reach from Bathurst.
Olive,
your dedication to the club in making to that meeting is a credit to you.
However,
once again we enjoyed a dry, sunny day, albeit windy, but we can’t complain
as we now are going for a hat-trick of sunny days for our next meeting, so
fingers crossed.
So,
John and Lorraine, if you can place that weather order with the heavens
above we should be in business.
A few
topics for open discussion in the 'General Business' part of the meeting
included, a silent tender process of bidding for those in the club who wish
to part with those carnival glass pieces no longer needed in their
collection and optional phone listing for those who would like to bid on it
for carnival glass collecting purposes was mentioned, although there were
several issues to be considered before either of these ideas could be
functional.
The
annual club 'theme' calendar has been set in concrete for at least another
year so many thanks to those of you who have chosen to host a meeting in the
near future.
The
following dates, as confirmed by all of those in attendance at the last
meeting, are:
-
Sunday, 21 November 2004 at Blackheath – Embellishments
-
Sunday, 20 February 2005 at Foster/Tuncurry – 1st
piece 2 favourites
-
Sunday, 22 May 2005 at Tumbi Umbi – Northwood
-
Sunday, 21 August 2005 at Galston – Opalescent
-
Sunday, 20 November 2005 at Beacon Hill – European Glass
Recently
several members have travelled interstate in the quest to further expand
their carnival glass collection and have found the drought has not only been
weather related. In fact only a handful of pieces were found by theses
members in three different states.
I look
forward to catching up with everyone at our next meeting. Please be
reminded John and Lorraine will be providing a pre-Christmas cold lunch to
which I extend my appreciation. In order for the Christmas spirit to be
celebrated, please feel free to wear hats, earrings, t-shirts and what ever
else you would like, especially you Patrice. Take care everyone and see you
soon.
Kindest
Regards & Happy Glass Hunting,
Your
President…..Maurice Geake
