22 May 2005
Hi
everyone
The
weather once again was on our side for our May meeting held at Cindy and
Kevin Mackley’s residence in Tumbi Umbi, NSW. Just under 30 club members attended this one making it an excellent meeting for those who were
able to make it. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank
Cindy and Kevin who provided a truly wonderful buffet lunch for all of us
there, not to mention a delicious afternoon tea later in the
day.
As
you are all no doubt aware our most recent meeting held in May was also
our Annual General Meeting, and this is where the positions for office
bearers were decided for the next 12 months.
It
gives me great pleasure in welcoming our incoming office bearers and also
those who stood for re-election of their previously held positions. As I
have mentioned in earlier newsletters, the personal experience I found
since holding positions of office in the club has always been challenging
and rewarding, to say the least. I’m certain that our incoming office
bearers will find it to be likewise.
Also,
I would like to express my gratitude to those who have held office bearer
positions during the last 12 months, some you of whom have held these
positions for more than one term and have done an excellent done in doing
so. Additionally, further thanks to the efforts of those who no longer
hold an office bearer position in the coming year, your past efforts were
greatly appreciated.
I’m
looking forward to what new ideas and concepts the club can instigate
over the next 12 months. Already we have several ideas that have gone
from the 'drawing board' and are now nearing completion. Who knows what
other ideas we as a club can come up with! So, if you have any
suggestions at all, please don’t hesitate in letting us know what they
might be.
Some
of the more notable issues on the agenda for discussion in 'General
Business' at the last meeting included:
·
The acceptance of the Club motif 'Waratah & Gum
Tips Vase', as the Club’s official emblem:
·
The finalisation in confirming 2,000 new club
application leaflets to be printed for general issue;
·
Further logistics concerning the orders of t-shirts
and badges and the related costs and sizes available: and
·
The appointment of a new Newsletter Editor.
On
behalf of the club, I would like to greatly express my appreciation to
Bob Smith, in 'stepping up to the plate', in taking on the position of
Newsletter Editor. I hope that we can all give Bob every support he needs
to overcome the challenges of this important role within the club. So, if
you happen to have any carnival glass stories or interesting facts and
figures about carnival glass that you’d like to share will the club,
please don’t hesitate to drop Bob Smith a line, the more the
merrier!
Our next meeting takes place on Sunday,
21 August 2005 at the home of Dot & Rob Butler in Galston, NSW.
The theme for the meeting is 'Opalescent'
carnival glass.
So again, don’t forget to bring those
pieces out that are bound to impress all there!
While I’m on the subject of meetings,
please give some consideration to hosting one of our upcoming meetings in
the next 12 months. Any ideas you may have on 'themes' will be quite
handy too.
Also, please remember to finalize your
annual club sub fee if you haven’t already done so with our club
Treasurer, Ray Rogers. This year in doing so, not only will you receive
your receipt as usual, but also a personally printed name tag with club
emblem.
As always, I look forward to seeing you
all again at our next meeting.
Happy Carnival Glass hunting.
Your Club President,
Maurice Geake
