20 November 2005
G’ day
everyone and Happy New Year.
I trust
that everyone enjoyed themselves during the festive season, but not so much
so that it’s starting to tell on the scales! Although having said that, I’m
sure as every year goes by, I’m noticing I’m using a lot less padding for
that Santa suit. Now that’s a worry isn’t it?
The
November meeting, held at the home of Lesley & Bob Smith, was a total
success all around. Not only for the friendly hospitality and great food on
offer, but also the amazing amount of thought that went into decorating the
house and for the personalised Christmas present that every club member
received. On behalf of all club members, I’d like to extend my sincerest
thanks for the presents and for such an exceptionally well organised
meeting, it was a truly memorable day by any measure. Well done guys, you’re
a credit to the club.
Last
year the club achieved numerous goals along the way, those of which included
the selection of the club’s emblem (the Waratah in front of the Australian
Gum Tips Vase), the re-designing of the club flyer/pamphlets, personalized
CGCAA name tags, but probably none too more important, or for that matter
personally challenging, but most satisfying, was the successful vote in
favour of the special resolutions tabled and amended to the club
constitution. To be frank, it has been a bit like putting bubble gum through
a straw, on all accounts, but we got there in the end.
As you
may recall, our February meeting is our traditional 'Dutch Auction' meeting.
So please remember to bring something wrapped, preferably not still
breathing, to this meeting as all proceeds go towards the club’s kitty (bank
account) and its always heaps of fun anyway come auction time. Once again,
thanks to the continuing generosity of our hosts, Cindy and Kevin Mackley,
lunch will be provided.
The
theme of the February meeting is blue carnival glass. Now personally, as a
collector of Australian carnival glass only, I can only hope that not too
many people mind if I bring along my 'Koala' float bowl in blue……, trouble
is, I just can’t seem to find where I left it last!!!...... Maybe I’ll just
have to wear a blue t-shirt instead.
If at
any time you happen to think of something you’d like to share with the club,
whether it be an idea you have, a great find on a trip away or some handy
hints that all of us from time to time come up with, just let your committee
members know or contact our club newsletter editor and you can be certain
that all your input will be greatly appreciated by everyone!!!
In
signing off again, I really am looking forward to seeing you all at our next
meeting
on
Sunday,
19th February 2006 at Cindy & Kevin Mackley’s home at Tumbi Umbi, NSW.
So don’t
forget the theme is blue carnival glass, so bring along those special pieces
of 'Class Glass' that will astound everyone!
See you
there!!!
Happy
Carnival Glass hunting.
Your
Club President,
Maurice
Geake
