Greetings
everyone!
What
an enjoyable day was had by everyone who was in attendance at our last
meeting at Cindy and Kevin Mackley’s home. We
were truly blessed with not only fantastic weather, great hospitality
once again, but I’d also say I wouldn’t be sticking my neck too far in
saying that our club had on display some of the finest 'blue' carnival
glass ever displayed in Australia in one place at one time. Absolutely
magnificent!
Congratulations,
to every one who contributed to this display.
In fact, if this is the standard of the carnival glass that we may see at
our future club meetings, we are all in for an exceptional visual treat,
that’s for sure! So keep up the great work everyone in bringing along
those fine examples of carnival glass.
The
'coloured' glass theme is really generating some very positive feedback
from quite a few people I have spoken with. This has been largely due to
the reason that whilst some of us in the club, myself included, may not
have a lot in a specific colour of carnival glass to show at one particular
meeting, following meetings may be 'right up our alley' in the colour
that we have more of in our own collections. It also tends to encourage
us to bring pieces that really best demonstrate the theme colour too,
which in turn makes for an amazing display for everyone to
see.
Whilst
I’m on the subject, the theme for the next meeting is amethyst carnival
glass. I can hardly wait to see what examples will be on display for this
one!!
Again
our sincere thanks to our club Dutch Auction auctioneer, Allan Christofferson, for conducting, quite professionally
I might add, this annual club fund-raising event. And also to those who
contributed. We should all take a bow as the money raised at the end of
the day was impressive.
I
was personally very pleased to see that we, as a united club, were able
to provide some financial assistance with the production of the club
newsletter to our good friends Bob & Lesley Smith. It was unanimous
amongst club members that the 'wear and tear' factor on their own
equipment should clearly not be borne by them alone. With the continuing
professional production of the newsletter and the mounting costs of
printing firms doing it for us, not to mention the running around
involved for them, it was clearly an excellent decision that we will all
benefit from.
It’s
also that time of year, again, when our annual club subscriptions are
due. So can you all please ensure that you finalise this at the next
meeting with our Club Treasurer. In return, you will receive your 2006-07
personalized club name tag (at the August Meeting) and also continue to
receive the quarterly Club Newsletter.
The
next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting and will include the
election of new committee members. These positions are important to the
continued success of the club and also as I have personally experienced,
very rewarding (although not financially) to those who have been
involved.
As
someone once said “Ask not what your club can do for you but what
you can do for your club” or something like that.
If
you are unable to attend the next meeting, you can still send in your
proxy voting form to our Club Secretary, Mark Strangwidge.
That way your vote still counts!
The
proxy voting forms can be found towards the end of this newsletter.
The
next meeting will be held on 21 May 2006 at the home of Vicky and Mark Strangwidge at 71 Clinton St., ORANGE NSW
See
you there!!!
Happy
Carnival Glass hunting,
Your
Club President,
Maurice
Geake
