21 May 2006
Greetings
everyone
I must confess to being somewhat apprehensive prior to our AGM meeting in
May. When it came time for the elections I was somewhat concerned that
some of the positions may be harder to fill than others. However, in the
end, I was very relieved with the overall result, that being a newly
elected club secretary and committee members with no hiccups to speak of.
On behalf of all club members and myself, I would like to take this
opportunity to congratulate and welcome the newly elected committee and
especially, to our new club secretary Lesley Smith. We all wish her every
success in her new position of office. A special thanks also to the
previous committee for their efforts and support over the past year. An
extra special thanks to our outgoing secretary, Mark Strangwidge. He
devoted considerable time and effort to the position and so much more
behind the scenes stuff that all those in the club have benefited from in
some way. He was always there to lend a hand when I needed it, and for
that, I am most grateful.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the club members for re-electing
me as your Club President for another year. As you may be aware, I was
somewhat initially perplexed as I remember at being voted in as President
some two years ago, but honestly, I have thoroughly enjoyed doing it.
Having said that, I would recommend this position or any of the other
office positions for those club members who would like to contribute to
the running of the club next time around.
Thanks also to Vicki & Mark for their hospitality at our most recent
meeting. Once again, the hosts of the day made everyone most welcome and
really know how to spoil the guests with excellent BBQ tucker!
As you may be aware, the upcoming August meeting is where we need to
decide where we will be setting our future meetings as well as what theme
we will be having at them. So please give some consideration to holding a
meeting at your place in the next 12 months or so, particularly if your
haven’t had the chance to do so in recent times.
Just a reminder too, if you haven’t already finalized your club subscription
fee for the next year, 2006/07, please do so with Ray Rogers and you’ll
receive your own personalized name tag which you can wear with pride, and
still continue to receive your club newsletter.
What a superb job Wayne did in compiling and collating some amazing
information and photos for the May/June edition of Collectables
magazine on all things great about carnival glass 'aka god’s glass'. Its
history, how it was made and why its just so collectable. If you can buy
a copy of the magazine, at least for Wayne’s article alone, do so, as it
was a really good read, believe me! Wayne Delahoy take a bow.
For the next meeting the theme is green carnival glass. I can hardly wait
to see what examples will be on display for this one!
Our next club meeting will be held on the 20 August 2006 at the home of
Iris & John Westren in Lugarno, NSW.
See you there!!!
Happy Carnival Glass hunting!
Your Club President,
Maurice Geake
