G’Day Everyone

Ever wondered how it can be that you can plan for a day to have some friends over for a BBQ, or in the case of Jean and Ray Rogers, a carnival glass meeting, and it seems to rain on cue every time? I’m sure they’ve wondered just that. Now, I know that we should all be very grateful for the rain we receive, cos 'beggars can’t be choosers', but does it really have to rain when it’s going to be just darn inconvenient?

Anyway, it didn’t stop all of us who were able to make it there having an enjoyable day. Certainly no-one should have left there hungry that’s for sure, as there were plenty of treats to go around. Jean and Ray always host an excellent meeting, and this one was no exception. Thanks again, on behalf of the club members and myself for a job well done.

It’s pretty amazing the distances people will travel in order to buy carnival glass. Of course, anyone can buy something from say eBay for example, and claim it was bought from far and abroad but, and it’s a big but, to literally go around the other side of the planet to buy it in person is nothing short of passionate to say the least. I have total admiration for those of you who have done just that. What’s more, the stories you people tell in how you got a particular piece and have brought it back from overseas surely makes it that little bit more of a satisfying article to own too I’d reckon!

The club members in attendance at the August meeting came up with some really novel ideas for themes for our meetings for next year. There still seems to be no shortage of ideas in the pipeline either, as far as I could tell from the input.

So, February 2008 will be a Roses & Hearts theme to be hosted by Lorraine & John Friend.

Then in May 2008 a Salvers & Compote theme at Dot & Bob Butler’s home.

Followed by the August 2008 meeting being a Feathered Friends theme at Iris & John Westren’s home.

Rounding out the year is the November 2008 meeting with a Vases & Tumblers theme at the home of Vicki & Mark Strangewidge.

All meetings in 2008 will be held on the 3rd Sunday of each of the months listed above.

What an exceptional variety of themes we have to look forward to. I really can’t wait!!!

Our Christmas meeting is to be held at Lesley & Bob Smith’s home in Beacon Hill on 18 November. The last meeting of the year is always great fun and usually quite memorable, so definitely try and make it to this one!!!

Since this is the last newsletter for 2007, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the club throughout the year, whether as a club official, committee member or club member. You are the reason why we have such a rewarding club to be a part of!!

And if you’re going away over the festive season or just spending time with family and friends, enjoy yourself, take care and drive safely and we will all see each other again in 2008.

As always,

Happy Carnival Glass Hunting

And see you at the next meeting!

Your Club President,

Maurice Geake
