G’Day Everyone
Well,
firstly, I’d like to thank all of you who have volunteered to hold a
position on the Executive Committee for the next 12 months. I’m certain
that your input and efforts will be greatly appreciated by all within the
club. Some of you have dedicated many years of continued support to our
club and your hard work has not gone unnoticed!
I’ve
been a member of numerous clubs over the years and looking back, I can't
think of a club that I have more thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. I
honestly believe that we have one of the finest glass collectors clubs in
the land, and for that matter possibly the world!!
Only
recently, I was chatting to a carnival glass collector interstate who was
telling me how incredibly impressed she was with, not only our club web
site, which in itself, is a boon of information, but also the club
newsletter which I have been told is “of world standard”
!!
I,
needless to say, was absolutely chuffed, humbled and in total agreement
to say the least, that we have reached that level of professionalism in
what we produce.
As
always, a thoroughly enjoyable day was had by everyone in attendance at
the May Annual General Meeting, and I would like to extend my sincere
thanks to Dot and Bob for their excellent hosting skills.
It
would be something of an understatement to say that there are some truly
amazing pieces of carnival glass out there. Just recently, I had the
privilege to see an Australian carnival glass piece which, to my
knowledge or experience, did not know even existed. No, it wasn’t the
much discussed but never seen 'Koala', but it was a piece that, in my
opinion, was just as impressive to say the least. At this point you must
be wondering what it is, well…….you’ll just have to come to the next
meeting to find out!!!
Our
next meeting will be held on 17 August 2008 at Iris and John’s home in
Lugarno NSW, and will feature the theme 'Feathered Friends'. I’m sure
almost everyone has a piece of carnival glass stashed away somewhere with
a motif of a bird on it, so don’t forget to bring it or them along.
While
I’m on the subject of themes, try to spare some time to think of
innovative ideas for next year’s carnival glass meetings. Just when you
may have thought that we were almost out of ideas for themes, someone
comes up with a suggestion that just goes to show we are a long way from
running out!!
Oh,
and while I think of it, we also need to set the venues for the next
year's club meetings as well. So, if you haven’t held a club meeting
before or for quite some time, why don’t you volunteer to do just that,
and you know the club will love ya for it !
Gotta go now
peoples, but I promise we’ll catch up again at the next meeting.
So
I’ll see ya there!!
and
as always,
Happy
Carnival Glass Hunting!
Your
Club President,
Maurice
